FOXLAND HARBOR HISTORY

Attendees of the Inaugural Steeplechase of Grasslands

Built by Thomas Baber in 1836 and originally called the Bellemont; it was known for its massive Ionic columns.  A century later new residents John and Laura Branham improved it and renamed it Foxland Hall, making it one of the grandest sportsman’s club and thoroughbred horse facilities.

On May 19, 1930 the Inaugural Steeplechase of Grasslands took place. This four-and-one-half course with twenty-four obstacles or jumps took place around the properties of Foxland Hall, Fairvue Plantation, and Kennesaw Farms. Attended by notables from Belle Meade and Gallatin, 8,000 people attended this event at Foxland Hall as the back drop. . Today, the mansion is being renovated into the clubhouse for Foxland Harbor.
